Almost three years ago I was unfortunately diagnosed with a fast growing squamous cell carcinoma on the side of my nose.To cut a long story short,I went to see Mr Pollock at his Clinic at the QMC Hospital in Nottingham and he arranged for me to have MOHS surgery at the NHS Treatment Centre and ,because of the extensive nature of the surgery,it left me with a large, full thickness defect (ie a big hole)on the side of my nose.Although I don't count myself as being vain,it was extremely upsetting and I really struggled with the situation for two years.I couldn't face going out in public without wearing a face covering and my social life was at rock bottom. After two years I decided that I needed to go privately if I wanted any chance of a normal life,so I came to see Mr Pollock at The Spire Hospital near Nottingham. Mr Pollock has looked after me and performed a complicated three stage nasal reconstruction.I can't praise him enough for the care and empathy he has shown over this whole journey.I don't think that I could have endured the treatment path without his practical, yet kindly concern for my welfare. At every stage he took time to explain,in detail, about my options and possible complications(of which there were a few)but I always felt that I was in "good hands". I am now able to walk out in public and hold a conversation without feeling embarrased.I am so glad that I took the decision and I'll always be very grateful to have been treated by such an excellent and caring surgeon.
