Within 10 minutes of meeting Mr Young he had correctly assessed how important my sport was to me. Despite my age, he took on the challenge to get me back playing again – pain free. Mr Young was very clear in his explanation of all my options, the pros and cons, and the probable outcomes. All the time I felt that he was really relating to my personal circumstances and not just ‘reeling off’ a set speech. In my case, he proposed a relatively new, non-invasive, non-surgical procedure, which was very low risk. He was extremely honest in that there was not enough data to show whether it would work, and it had not been around long enough to know how long it lasts. I had 2 injections about a month apart. They were carried out by Mr Young’s radiographer as they were done under ultrasound guidance, but on both occasions, Mr Young was present, overseeing the procedure and ensuring my comfort. I was slightly sceptical but within 2 weeks of the first injection my knee, which had a life time of twisting and turning, two previous arthroscopies, and now arthritis, was actually diminishing in pain. A month after the 2nd injection I was back playing competitive hockey with no pain during the game, or afterwards. Throughout the process Mr Young always made time fully explain the problem, the possible courses of action and to answer questions. 8 months down the line, although lockdown has prevented competitive play, there are no signs of the pain returning. Will definitely be back to have the other knee done!
