I was under the care of Mr Wallace in 2002 when I was 42 and required a left hip replacement. I was offered a conventional replacement by another consultant but was told I would need to wait some years for the procedure due to only being 42 and revision surgery being required once the conventional replacement wears/loosens (normally within 15 yrs for young patients) Mr Wallace was one of the surgeons trained in the Birmingham hip resurfacing technique which I had researched and he listened to my situation, offered advice and fully included me in the decision process to elect for surgery to have my hip resurfaced. I had surgery in November 2002 and Mr Wallace was very skilled, caring and professional and ensured I had a brilliant outcome. I cannot fault the care I received to get me back to normal life, return to work and resume sporting activities. For the past 19 years I have remained very active and I am pain free. I am now 61 and often forget I have even had my hip resurfaced and the replacement continues to give good range of motion and shows no sign of needing revision. Mr Wallace followed up my Hip resurfacing in 2007 after I presented with a pain. It turned out everything was good but I'd lifted too much weight and strained a muscle/tendon. He also did a follow up in 2010 looking for elevated cobalt/chrome in my body in case the joint was producing wear particles but there were no increased levels found. I can highly recommend Mr Wallace and would seek his skills should I ever need help in the future.
