I suffered a herniated L5/S1 disc in May 2017 and was virtually incapacitated by Feb 18. I had been on max strength and dose co-codamol, gabapentin, physio, steroid injections and was still in agony. After multiple A&E visits to the Royal Surrey, a consultant gave me Mr Paremain's name and said he was the man to talk to about back problems. I contacted his private secretary and made an appointment for the next working day (Monday). I had to be wheeled in to his Nuffield office as by this point, I couldn't support myself (I was only 35) and after looking at the MRI scan I brought with me, he agreed I needed an operation and he would do it on the NHS. (The same operation was about £7-8k privately. ) I was wheeled next door to the RSCH to be admitted immediately and 4 days later, I had surgery. Discharged the following day and it literally changed my life. I only saw Mr Paremain twice; once at that first consultation and once while I was waiting for surgery and whilst he is not the most chatty or personable, he was sympathetic to my desperation and recognised the need for surgery. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Paremain and I would shake his hand if I ever saw him again as he gave me my life back.
