Last year I herniated discs in my back whilst working as an HCA in a nursing home. I was in a lot of pain, could hardly walk and when I did I had to have support , found it difficult to drive, sit, stand , lie down, wasn't sleeping as the discs were causing pressure on my cauda equina nerve which in turn caused bladder issues and sciatic nerve issues which caused a lot of leg pain. Life was pretty grim. I was fortunate enough to be referred to Mr Paremain who , from my initial consultation with him , immediately put my mind at rest and reassured me that my condition could be improved and that I would be able to regain my mobility, dignity and independence. At all times he was supportive, empathetic and always very honest with me about what to expect from the surgery that he would perform, what the after effects and recovery period would be and what the limitations to my future mobility/day to day activities would be. Once I was admitted for surgery Mr Paremain came to see me and reconfirmed what would happen during the surgery and what to expect immediately after and over the coming few weeks. He listened to my fears and reassured me. After the surgery he came to see me and again was attentive and reassuring. I knew exactly what to expect from my recovery as Mr Paremain had explained things so clearly to me and my recovery pretty much followed what he had explained. One of the biggest reliefs for me was to wake up after surgery and be free of the awful leg pain. I had a fantastic physio who worked with me for 3 to 4 months after the surgery , I helped myself by losing weight, swimming 5 mornings a week and sticking to the exercises given to me by my physio. I have now returned to work, can join in activities with my family and friends without being in constant pain or shuffling around and have regained my confidence and independence. I cannot praise Mr Paremain and his team highly enough.
