You never think it will ever happen to you and then Wow! You find yourself in a real life or death situation. Just over 12 months ago what I thought was a chest infection turned out to be my worst nightmare which I thought plenty of fluids and Paracetamol would cure Which is what GP’s tell you) wrong! Arriving in critical condition in the A&E department at Redditch hospital I was basically told that I was drowning in the build-up of fluid in my lungs (Empyema) also they found a diaphragmatic hernia so my hours left were numbered. I was then moved to The Priory. Enter the exceptional and multi-talented Ehab Bishay whose skills in the operating theatre literally saved my life. When I arrived in his care at The Priory I was scared even though I would never have admitted that to anyone it is only now that I understand what he did for me. It is his skill and brilliance in the operating theatre that saved mem, but it was also his empathy and support with the way he handled me and my petrified daughter. He holds that wonderful mix of basic human qualities, that of normality and the art of good communication. I cannot thank him enough and will always be in his debt for the simple gift of life that could so easily have gone.
