Where do you start when someone has given you your life. The first time I met Mr Spaulding was in Feb 2019 in clinic for the initial chat to explain my surgery the Whipple procedure. The name alone has you thinking. But sure enough out came the diagrams to simplify things. He told me that he had the best team around him to carry out the operation. I came out from that meeting knowing that he was a man who respected those who worked with him. For me that spoke volumes. The day came for my operation on 27th Jan . From the entire team I was fully informed before the operation. I woke 24 hours later after having my gallbladder ,duodenum part of my pancreas and small part of my stomach. This was due to a growth in my duodenum . Once released next dat from brilliant care in ICU I was back on general ward. Another 24 hours of amazing care. A week later I was on my feet and food starting to be introduced into my system.. As with others on here I was visited so regularly by Mr Spalding. Was I a number ? No I was a person who he cared about. He kept my sprits up as i knew I had to have a good mindset and of course a great family to get me through.. At the same time the staff at whatever level gently pushed me to help my confidence. But there was Mr Spalding and the words “ You are my priority at this time” A massive lift to my confidence. One by one the various tubes were removed. I can’t explain why but I can honestly say I had NO pain whatsoever which has mystified all involved. Came the day just 2 weeks later after a 10 hour operation came the words from Mr Spalding. You are going home. Yes I was emotional he had done exactly what he said he would do . I have been a couple of months and things will return to normal. I may rattle at times with the number of pills I take for a few weeks. Five star rating ? A ten star rating couldn’t describe this man . A true gent in every sense of the word. I have outpatient appointments to go through. I go there with confidence and a big thank you to Mr Spalding and as he told back in February 2019 a brilliant team . I don’t send reviews easily. This one was very easy to share my experience for those of you who read it any with impending surgery. Adrian Arnold
