It's now 6 months to the day since my Total Hip Replacement surgery. I was first diagnosed with moderate to severe arthritis in my left hip back in 2012, some 9 years ago.. I persevered with the difficulties it was increasingly causing me in my everyday life, mainly because I was scared of the thought of surgery. I eventually made the decision to seek professional advice again late in 2020. I thought I’d seek help and advice from a Rheumatologist first, trying anything that wouldn’t involve surgery. He took X-rays and told me that unfortunately the only solution was surgery, he recommended Mr Imbuldeniya. I did my research online on the handful of surgeons that BUPA had suggested, Mr Imbuldeniya was one of them. I was impressed with the amount of Hip Replacements that Mr Imbuldeniya does in a year so I knew he was an experienced surgeon. I had my appointment with Mr Imbuldeniya and was immediately impressed with his confidence and expertise. I was still very worried and delayed the suggested surgery date until after Christmas 2020, I finally settled for 11th January 2021. Still very concerned about the surgery especially as we were heading into another spike in the COVID crisis, I resigned myself to put myself in the professional hands of Mr Imbuldeniya and his team. On the day of the surgery everything was explained to me and I was treated exceptionally well by everybody involved in my case. Mr Imbuldeniya came to my room to put me at ease and explain what I needed to know and asked if I had any questions. Then the Anaesthetist visited me, again to make me feel at ease. The whole procedure went to plan and I woke up feeling so relieved that I had actually gone through with it, and now all I had to do was to recover. Six months on, I've long finished my Physiotherapy, but I still do my exercises 5 mornings a week. I feel great, I cycle, I swim, I go to the gym and I'm walking 10,000 plus steps a day at weekends. I no longer walk with a limp and I can actually feel that my legs are both the same length, such a nice feeling after putting up with my damaged hip for so many years. looking back I wish that I'd done it earlier, the whole experience has been a total success and I'm so happy with the outcome.
