Mr Blacker diagnosed a cancer tumour on my right kidney on New Years Eve 2015. I had previously been told I probably had a harmless cyst on the kidney at initial CT scan a month or so earlier and so was shocked to hear the news on the day. I kept it together and listened intently to my 3 treatment options. Mr Blacker assured me my outlook was excellent. The tumour was at stage 1 and around 37mm in size.... i thought this was large but he assured me it was actually small and eminently treatable. Also that he suspected I'd had cancer for maybe 3 years!! thankfully for me it was slow growing. I am a 48 year old male, in good shape and a non smoker. I was keen to know why i had this tumour. Apparently its just bad luck in my case. The good luck was that it had been found early (incidentally) 3 weeks later I had a partial nephrectomy and spent just one night in Coventry hospital. Mr Blacker managed to save the majority of the kidney which was a bonus :-) Mr Blacker was a star all the way through and at the follow up appointment a month later he informed that although the tumour was malignant he had managed to remove all the cancer cells with no metastasis (spread). Its now 4 months after the op and i feel great. No side effects whatsoever. I have a check up CT scan booked and a follow up appointment with Mr Blacker. He (and Margo, the Macmillan nurse) have been truly excellent and I cant thank them enough for everything. Id like to think I am cured but I guess its natural to be apprehensive about such things. As a cancer patient I will receive annual CT scans for a number of years which is very reassuring. I hope this account in some way can help others at a distressing time. I also wish anyone with cancer reading this all the very best in their treatment.... with Mr Blacker you are in the safest of hands. Guys like him are amazing, utter respect and admiration from me Steve
