Mr Abidia was very nice when I met him In clinic, but I had a completely different experience after I had surgical complications. I had a total thyroidectomy on 13/12/23 at PAH the day following the surgery I ended up with Hypocalcemia…. He popped his head round the door on the Friday when I was on a calcium drip and morphine and said he thinks he left 2 parathyroid glands behind and the others may be battered! I spent 8 days in hospital and he never bothered to come and speak to me again despite repeated requests, he just sent junior doctors down who said they couldn’t answer my questions. I guess when something goes wrong he can’t face his patients…… I would seriously say to anyone considering a thyroidectomy to do your research on your surgeon and ask the rates of complications…. Accidental removal of parathyroid glands and hypocalcemia!!! I’m left in limbo now with regular trips to the hospital to monitor calcium and have infusions and medication. Feel very let down!
