Miss Sofia Makrydima carried out my Laparotomy, ovarian cystectomy surgery on June 2023. She and the gynaecology team at St. Georges were very helpful with the preparations for the operation starting from appointments, to the actual operation. Earlier this year, when the results showed that I had a large ovarian cyst, I was told the operation will be inevitable due to the size of the cyst, and will be done through a vertical cut through the middle of my belly. I was also told that it is going to be likely that my right ovary will have to be removed as the cyst was on it. On the day of the operation, Miss Sofia told me that she will try to do the cut horizontally instead of vertically and try to save the right ovary. Thanks to her the cut ended up being way smaller than expected and horizontal, and what's best is, Miss Sofia saved the right ovary. She did a wonderful job and the stitching looks great! What's more, my parents were with me that day and Miss Sofia made sure they were informed straight away when the surgery finished; this eased their and my nerves a lot as we were able to see each other sooner. The Anaesthesiologist and the rest of the team during my operation were amazing, made me less scared of the procedure, with explanations and reassurance. The nurses at the post op care were wonderful; very helpful and kind. Miss Sofia made sure to check up on me at the post op care and around 2 weeks after my discharge, I was contacted by her to check how I was doing and to tell me the results of the lab test. Big thanks again to all the lovely people who were part of my experience and to the lovely Miss Sofia Makrydima and her outstanding performance and care. Thank you again, Kamila
