I struggled with this psycharist. Initally she seemed OK, and maybe she is for some. My difficulties were quite complex and I don't believe she understood the trauma behind my breakdown. All she saw was medical symptoms of 'psychosis' but not the pain and anguish that caused these symptoms. The worse thing in the world she could have done was section me and put in on a locked ward in a mental hospital, I told her this. But she did it anyway, she would not listen to me. I've since been diagnosed with PTSD from the sectioning at the hands of this psychartist and also had the 'psychosis' diagnosis removed and have been told I had an anxiety breakdown with unmasked autism and ADHD, so i wasnt even having a psychotic episode at all. I'm saddened (and traumatised) that she didn't listen to me about the harm hospitalisation can do. I was at no risk to myself or others, I was just broken and needed help - not to be locked up or heavily sedated with medications. She put an anxious, autistic individual under section, she really got it wrong, words cannot describe how terrifying that was for me. My story is a sad story and the system failed me. She could be very heartless and hard on me, when it was in fact the last thing I needed. She would not listen to me. I remember her telling me 'hospitalisation isnt traumatic', well I'm evidence it is. And how native, invalidating and dismissive is she to say it isn't. She is very 'fixed' in her thinking and strong willed - it's not pleasant to be in her hands. She's doesn't appear to understand trauma and it's effects and very medical focus with little psychological understanding. What a relief to be out that system!
