I am 8 weeks post hysterectomy, I am feeling lighter, less tired, and relieved. I spent many years about 15 in total, convincing different medical professionals, that my monthly cycle in comparison to others ,was not normal, I was in pain more often than not, after various drugs and scans, I finally arrived at miss Gummas office. To be honest I needed to convince her ,I needed this, I had a year of further treatment to reduce the size of the fibroids detected, but this made me feel really unwell. her concerns were justified, I am overweight, but healthy, and quite young to hit menopause head on. however I convinced her that years of feeling uncomfortable and often in pain out weighed for me the other, Miss Gumma did listen, and her honest clear conversation about being as healthy as possible before the operation stayed with me throughout, before, during and after my op. Miss Gumma was very clear ,about what to expect after my operation especially with Gumma to do her absolute best. A substantial mass was removed, I spent 3 days in hospital recovering, I was kept comfortable, I think that this should be the minimum time after an op such as mine,, it helps you feel more confident once home, it helps with preventing infections as staff can keep an eye on this, and tears or injury's from doing things normal for home. I was asked if I wished to go home day 2? , I think its wise to have the confidence to say when you feel ready, this was advised by Miss Gumma, for me this was day 3.I had no complications at home, I followed the very useful recovery information, provided at the per op assessment appointment. I attended my follow up appointment yesterday, I am feeling well, a small tugging, which is inside stitching and menopausal hot flushes is all I am feeling, this is such a relief for me. I am starting HRT, this week, My scar is amazing, very tidy, and I am feeling positive about myself and my future health .Miss Gumma has played a huge part in this ,for which I thank her greatly. I think that if miss Gumma continues to advise appropriate hospital stay after ops this must help avoid complications and return visits.it also helps patients feel wanted and cared about , which instils confidence in the health team providing care as part of the NHS. would I recommend Miss gumma, absolutely, The NHS is amazing! so are the professionals and staff that work as part of it. kind regards. Mrs Laura Bream.
