I took my father to see this GP today. My father has Alzheimer’s disease, however he is perfectly able to communicate. He is able to answer questions, and speak on his own behalf. From the first moment, Dr Sanderson didn’t bother to communicate with my dad. She addressed all questions to me without even attempting to speak with my dad, and then when she did speak to my dad; she almost shouted and spoke incredibly slow. My dad looked at me to say “why on earth is she speaking to me like this?”. I would have thought it would be common sense to assess your patients communicative skills before automatically deciding they’re incapable? She told him she would be examining him, incredibly patronisingly. Asked ME what the scar was on his back. And then air quoted to me that he had a “chest infection”. Still unsure why there was need for an air quote. She explained to me that she would be prescribing antibiotics, and that he had a high temperature. Ae left and I laughed with my Dad about how patronising this doctor was.
