My GP had asked our local hospital to carry out a colonoscopy on me within two weeks so as to not coincide with my other medical issues. Unfortunately the hospital were already fully booked & could only promise to fit me in on any cancellation they may subsequently have. Recalling I had been a member of The Benenden Society (formally The Post Office & Civil Service Sanatorium Society) since a teenager (I am now in my 70s) I approached them, they offered to fund immediately & recommended Dr.Shaukat at the Spire, but unfortunately they gave me his personal mobile number rather than his secretaries contact! Dr Shaukat was charming when I called him, said he did not mind, was very busy during the following week, but to book myself into the Spire anyway so as to be on their system with him (their next date was October) & he would do his upmost to slot me somewhere the following week. he also said that if the NHS hospital did subsequently offer something first he would not object at all if I cancelled an appointment with him at short notice. On the Friday of that very week at 18.00hrs Dr Shaukat contacted me to say he would slot me in on the following Wednesday at 07.30am, presumably before his list that day, which he did. He was very friendly, professional & efficient throughout as were all his team at the Spire. He said that he would telephone me later with the full result but still found the time (I don't suppose I was really with it then after sedative) to seek out my wife to tell her all was well & nothing of concern to worry about. You really cannot get better than that & I am extremely grateful to him & his team as is my wife for going the extra mile to help me on what was obviously a very busy day for him..
