I have a throat infection of some sort and she prescribed antibiotics without any examination. If it is a viral infection, antibiotics are ineffective. But without establishing that through viewing my throat, and just a conversation on the phone, the prescription was made. My ENT specialist dad was shocked that did not suggest in person examination before prescribing, because antibiotics should be used with care. His opinion was that I have viral ulcers and it needed confirmation via in person. She also dismissed my sharing on the level of pain and just told me it would get better. I eventually went private with work and the GP agreed that an in person consultation is needed, that even viral infections can be incredibly painful and prescribed a spray to numb while I wait for in person consultation to confirm whether antibiotics are in fact needed.
