Avoid this doctor at all costs. I had an ADHD assessment with Richard at Psymplicity. Once he’d confirmed my diagnosis, he pushed unrelentingly for me to agree to take medication. Several times I said I needed to process the diagnosis and think about whether I wanted to medicate. This didn’t stop him and he continued pushing hard, only stopping when I very forcefully said to stop and that I did not want to agree to medication immediately. He is not interested in your welfare and is only interested in making money from drugs. It made the whole process even more difficult as it cast doubt on whether I even had ADHD, so obvious was his intention to make money from getting me onto drugs. Please, please take this review seriously and find another doctor who will hopefully have some morals.

I would and have recommended Dr Duffett to a couple of different individuals going through the same experience as me a little later on in life. Dr Duffett was very thorough with me asked a lot of questions some of which I didn't see relevant at the time but once time went on I could see how they were. He was very patient with me and was empathetic when I opened up to him about traumatic life events and mental health breakdowns due to being diagnosed with bipolar when I was 17. After my adult ADHD assessment with Dr Duffett he recommended me some medication and what I liked about this was not only was it my decision but he gave me options and made me feel included in my treatment rather than being forceful with his opinion and diagnosis as I have previously found the NHS psychiatrist to treat me like I had no option. Once I had made my decision about medication Dr Duffett kept in regular contact with me and made sure I was gaining positive experiences from it and I was also posted a blood pressure machine to monitor my blood pressure which I found so helpful. Dr Duffett has been amazing with writing letters to my GP asking for shared care as he understood that prescriptions was rather expensive and so once he felt everything was stable he managed to get my GP to prescribe my medikinet so I don’t have to pay, the only payment I make is my monthly prepayment certificate. I can honestly say Dr Duffett has changed my life I have managed to go back to work and get on with normal life changes without crumbling. I can’t thank him enough for being so caring and understanding so please if you are thinking about having an ADHD assessment and your worried about not being taken seriously because your an adult and have been told previously that “you have got this far in life I’m sure you can carry on” just put your trust and faith into this lovely Psychiatrist as he may just change your life like he did mine.

Great clinician, pragmatic approach empowers the patient to take control of their illness. Great listening skills I would recommend if you want a great doctor but he will not mollycoddle you, so if you need that get a counsellor or a friend.

When I spoke to him it was one of the worse experiences with a psychiatrist I’ve ever experienced. He barely acknowledged the fact the issues at hand. Instead seeming more concerned about the content of my vulnerable state rather than the state I was in. He also mocked some of the issues I presented to him and made me feel like my issues were not of importance. Even when I disclosed something very personal that I had to go through his only question was “did you tell your parents?”. Not once did he ask how these things triggering me made me feel and as someone who has seen many professionals this just seemed to odd to me especially because I’m an adult in my 20s not a child so why would that be of importance in this context? I only complain about him because I truly want no other person to go through what I went through. I really wish I had looked into him more before I started an appointment otherwise I would have cancelled it but as they say hindsight is 20/20. Please find another doctor! He literally said at some point I’m not “psychotic” which wasn’t even a worry of mine I was just dealing with some massive anxieties which had begun to trigger paranoias and I did not feel at all like I was being listened to.
