My 14 year old son had suffered for over a year with sinus problems. We thought it was an allergy to dust, or a weak immune system, we had been to the doctors twice. After yet another 3 week cold where he was producing so much thick mucus, I read on the NHS site, ‘go to your doctor if colds persist longer than a week and are frequent ‘. Dr Summer was scathing and dismissive and said ‘it’s just the way he is built and there is nothing the NHS can do for him’. I said I wanted a second opinion and asked him to refer my son to a consultant, privately if that was his position. He made it clear he thought it was a waste of everyone’s time. We went to see the consultant who after examining my son, said he could see that mucus was not draining from one sinus and diagnosed ongoing sinus infection. He prescribed antibiotics, this was four months ago. My son has been fine ever since and been fully participating in sports again and feeling happier. I will not waste my or my family’s time going to see Dr Summers again!
