I am a 68 year old, retired, special needs teacher and have had Chronic Myeloid Leukemia for 9 years. Dr Sivakumaran has been my Consultant from day one. During this period he has not only been exceptional with his clinical care but has shown tremendous empathy for all of my concerns (rational or irrational). He also encourages me to continue to exercise regularly and always have walking trips to look forward to. He then organises my hospital visits around these trips. He is an exceptional consultant in that he cares for me as a whole person and not just my CML. He has turned a life threatening condition into a managed one and I cannot thank him enough. If you couple his care with my knowledge that, Caroline Thornbury (McMillan Nurse) is always available, is is the ward, then I could not have had better care in an expensive Swiss Clinic.
