Dr Martin Behounek spoke with my wife today at the Glenfield Hospital's Clinical Decisions Unit which she was attending with angina-like symptoms for the second time. He spoke us through the echo cardiogram he performed, showing me what was what on the screen. He talked through the different possible reasons for angina-like pain in a very logical and reasoned way. When we asked if there was a possibility that she had microvascular angina he explained why this was very unlikely on the basis of the readiness with which the coronary arteries filled during the angiogram. He unsolicitedly took us to see the angiogram video and then explained the most likely reason for the chest tightness and radiation to the left arm (muscle tension affecting thoracic nerves). He assured her that she could take exercise without compromising her health. The whole was done so professionally and with such clarity, logic and appropriate response to concern, that we both came away feeling the consultation to have exceed our expectation and, in short, to have been impeccably good. Nothing was overdone and no time was wasted, yet everything that needed to be said was said and we felt respected. I write this with a sense of gratitude. (I have filled my wife's demographic details below, rather than my own).
