Marlene is a valued member of the NSTEP team and is well respected amongst the wider mental health services and inpatient staff for her professionalism, leadership and expertise. This makes her an excellent team-player. She is the objective voice of reason and practicality within a passionate multidisciplinary team but always listens to different standpoints and is solution-focused. She believes in recognising other people's good work and achievements and makes a point of consciously thanking individual team members or the wider team for pieces of work or difficult challenges that have been faced, particularly during COVID. Marlene communicates to the team clearly and concisely and is fair in her approach. She doesn't seem to believe in hierarchy within the team and this has created an effective, open and honest environment in which to work. She is also a role model in working hard and goes the extra mile to reach her goals and help others. Marlene is always keen on innovation and looking for ways to improve the service through research.
