Dr Liz was absolutely AMAZING! I’m 19 and autistic and needed immediate plastic surgery to remove infection and with her excellent knowledge and experience she turned my week in hospital from a very scary experience into a a more calm and relaxed environment after being reassured. After being told about my op from a Different doctor I ran away and overdosed on drugs and alcohol and refused consent I was alone and thought I wasn’t going to wake up. Then I met Dr Liz and she listened to me and my worries and came up with a plan that was safe and explained everything in a way that I could clearly understand and consent to which I did and trusted her with my life her confidence and empathy was so reassuring. Seeing her face after waking up was amazing I knew I was in safe hands and her staying 4 and a half hours after her shift just to make sure I was receiving the best care which I did. Dr Liz is a credit to the NHS and I am so proud to have been treated by her. I cried the next day because I knew that I would have refused the op that I needed asap if it wasn’t for this Extraordinary doctor.

Response from Dr Liz Kingston

Looking after autistic patients matters to me personally as my eldest child is autistic. I want to make sure that I always try my hardest to adapt my care so that it meets the needs of an autistic person, and reduces unnecessary stress. Thank you for trusting me, and letting me speak to you to see how I could help you get the surgery you needed. I am so glad you were able to get your treatment, and I hope you are recovering well now.
