Dr Lisa Cooke: Throughout the ten years or so of my treatment for CLL. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, the Mcmillan centre at the QEH has continually evolved, in patient care and the provision of new treatments. Staff training for new and old members has been constant and the procedure for patient care on a seamless improvement cycle. These improvements had to be managed and the haematology team have been blessed with strong, positive guidance from their consultants. No-one should be concerned when visiting the day centre, chemo room or ward, understanding from everyone is paramount. Today, an ongoing clinic with Dr Cooke. Her many decisions on the treatment for my disease have been critical and totally effective. Her clinics are purposeful, enjoyable and reassuring. She is a confidence builder, compassionate and totally approachable. Cancer is a wicked disease and yet she gradually but firmly instils belief into oneself to keep being positive. Despite the wonderful efforts of the whole haematology team, resources are restricted by space and time, whilst patient numbers steadily increase. So please, a larger unit and more staff would be beneficial to all. Kenneth Oct 20.
