I first met Dr Tappin in 1984 when he told me that my Aunt ( who had slight learning difficulties) had two large carcinomas in her stomach. He asked me did he want to tell her and I said no because she would not understand fully what it would mean and she would be scared. He then very gently told her that she needed an operation to try to make her feel better. She had the operation in which he took 3/4 of her stomach away basically to reduce any pain she might have at the end of her life. 6 months later she passed and did not need any pain relief whatsoever, very unusual for stomach cancer. I then met him again 5 years later when I had been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, luckily for me it was caught early but I still had to have blood tests every 6 months and see Dr Tappin for 5 years. When I was eventually given the all clear I got quite upset that I wouldn't see him again ( hopefully ) and I told him that he had been the best Dr I had ever had the pleasure of trusting. Great man , fantastic Doctor.
