How do you judge the performance of a GP? For me I guess it is in a few key areas, notably, do I feel that I am at ease; I have been listened to; the problem has been investigated thoroughly, diagnosed correctly and a solution recommended or prescribed; where necessary my problem has been referred to a specialist in a timely manner; I trust his judgement? In John’s case the answer is an overwhelming yes on all counts! John has been our family GP since he came to the Hawthorns Surgery many years ago. Like all good GPs, he has become like a family friend, his easy, genial manner puts you at ease immediately. He listens, gets to the root of the problem, explains the issues in understandable terms, makes the diagnosis and takes whatever action is necessary. I can only say that history tells me that I can place a very high degree of trust in his diagnosis and the prescribed solution. Like many GPs, unfortunately in this day and age, it can be difficult to book an appointment with him, and whilst the other doctors in the practice are excellent there are times when you want your “own doctor”. But, the Hawthorns is a well run practice, a lot better than many of the horror stories we read about in the newspapers and I can usually get an appointment with him when it matters. A first class GP that I would recommend to anyone – with a tongue in cheek proviso that it didn’t make it even more difficult for me to get to see him of course!
