I saw Dr. Stallard through the ADHD Clinic and from even enquiring about diagnosis, he and his team have made me feel comfortable and respected. My in-person assessment was in London. I felt that he was really attentive in listening to my concerns and at no point rushed me. What impressed me most was his respectful and calm manner. He treated me as an adult. I didn’t feel talked down to or dismissed (which unfortunately had often been my experience of psychiatrists in the past). I had initially wanted to see a female psychiatrist as I thought that I would feel more understood, but Dr Stallard was incredibly knowledgeable about ADHD presentation in women and girls, and empathetic about the challenges, discriminations, and dismissals that many neurodivergent women have experienced. I felt safe that he was genuinely interested in understanding and addressing all aspects of my mental health and history and finding the right diagnosis - not just stamping an ADHD label on me. He encouraged open dialogue around treatment, and I didn’t feel that he pushed medication on me in any way. However, when I made the decision to go down that path, I felt entirely safe that he was advising me based on my specific circumstances as opposed to just a one-size-fits-all medication route. The medical intervention has been life-changing: whilst not eradicating my ADHD brain, my quality of life has improved massively. Dr. Stallard patiently helped me through the process of obtaining a shared care agreement with my GP when there were complications. The ability to get hold of him and his team at short notice has been invaluable for questions, repeat prescription and alterations (when there were shortages of particular medication doses). Based on my experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Stallard to anyone seeking an assessment for ADHD. His expertise, professionalism, and compassionate approach have made me feel completely safe and reassured through the emotionally challenging process of diagnosis, titration and general coming to terms with my neurodivergence. This has been hugely reassuring. I will always be exceptionally grateful to Dr. Stallard and wish that there were more psychiatrists like him.
