We saw James in Epsom A&E at 4.30am one morning as my daughter had been suffering with chest pains for 24 hours and they had woken her up. My daughter is 16 and it was her first visit to A&E with an undiagnosed problem. Naturally she was scared. James immediately put her at ease, relating to her age with talk of phones and apps etc. They talked about her AS level exams and that she was taking Biology and Chemistry, wanting to have a career in the medical profession. He was calm, self assured and in control. He arranged for her to have an ECG which showed there was nothing seriously wrong with her and took a blood sample. My daughter is scared of needles and he was very gentle but hit a valve in the vein so wisely chose to continue rather than stab her again. She trusted him completely and was calm. He exhausted every avenue trying to find the source of her pains and reassured her that she would be ok. After agreeing that there was not "emergency" he referred us to our GP and it was detected that she had a resolving infection and she was prescribed antibiotics, only detected with a urine test which took 24 hours. James had tested her urine for the immediate signs but the infection had to be detected in the lab. He did all he could for us. I can't thank him enough.
