I travel down to London every few months from Yorkshire, to see Dr Shah primarily to receive advice on dealing with Thalassaemia. However I also have type 1 Diabetes, and I have to say the advice I have received from Dr Shah on Diabetes is probably more useful than what I have received from my endocrinologist in Yorkshire! I think her holistic approach to the patient is the way forward, and something other Doctors would be will advised to follow, this and the fact the vast array of knowledge she possesses is the main reason I consider a 370mile round trip to see her in clinic not to be a burden. Also, I have in the past neglected my health and Dr Shah was firm but fair, and represented the facts and her advice in a non condescending manner. Finally I would also like to mention Emma Prescott who is a Nurse Specialist in Thalassaemia and works side by side Dr Shah, again Emma has a great understanding of the disease and is very approachable and helpful in her work. A perfect team, and a credit to the NHS, Whittington Hospital, and most importantly themselves. Keep up the excellent work guys!
