Dr Armstrong did not diagnose me as bipolar to my face and was insistent that I began lithium with no previous explanation as to why. He failed to provide information for weeks before I could make a decision. During my treatment, he continued to increase my dose despite me communicating that I was having severe side effects. My blood levels were not therapeutic despite being on a very high dose and another antidepressant at the time and my mood had become very unstable. I rang my GP and we decided to cease lithium treatment. I took my Dad to my follow up appointment as I did not trust Dr. Armstrong. Despite informing him of treatment and lifestyle changes encouraged by my rheumatologists Dr. Armstrong was dismissive and told me not to "have daytime naps" even though I was unable to function without regular sleep intervals. I had told Dr. Armstrong of my recurring suicidal thoughts and plans for the first time since previous crisis and he dismissed this, saying I was low risk and my mood was fine. Dr. Armstrong made me feel frustrated, confused and like I had no control in my care. I had worked with Dan in the past on a nursing placement and he wrote that we "apparently" worked together on my medical notes suggesting I was delusional, however all other staff at the practice are aware of this inappropriate comment. I did not feel safe under Dr. Armstrong's care. I am very pleased I now have a new Psychiatrist.
