Consultants and Surgeons have a reputation for seeming to be cold & aloof. Honorary Associate Professor Adrian Wills does nothing to dispel this idea. Having seen 2 Consultants, and having symptoms for 2½ years. All the usual tests that I had (numerous blood tests, nerve conductive studies, MRI scan of Brain & Spine, Lumbar Puncture) showed no diagnosis. So, I was referred to Dr Wills for an answer. He did some quick reflex & strength tests and smugly declared that I had 'Neuropathy' - as if I didn't know that already. He did not explain that we have different types of nerves, or which ones were affected in my case. He did not offer to do a nerve biopsy, which would have helped identify exactly what type of nerve problem I had. He did say that he didn't think that it was a myelin sheath attack, but more likely a 'wiring;' problem. This is not helpful to an Engineer, who has a grasp of these things, especially after 2½ years research on the Internet. His conclusion was simple. We don't know what you have, so we cannot treat it. He said that if I got any pain, to see my GP. If it deteriorated, than ask to be referred back. His letter to my GP had 2 inaccuracies in it. One that my left ankle was 'sometimes' stiff. No! It is stiff all of the time. And that I didn't show any symptoms of weakness, but he did not press against the outside of my feet which offer no or reduced resistance. All in all, a waste of time seeing Dr. Wills. I wonder where I can go from here. I think that I shall demand a copy of my Tests and all notes, to take to another Neurologist after studying them.
