I like the new GP's that have joined the practice. They seem very patient and knowledgeable but I miss Dr Chowdhury who was outstanding. The merger seems to have lost a bit of that family GP feel and is now rather more clinical in atmosphere.

I have been frequenting the surgery more since finding out I was pregnant in June. I initially suffered with severe morning sickness so have been requiring more from the clinic than I would normally. I personally find making an appointment extremely difficult. When patients needs a urgent appointment to have them waiting a week and that considered next available isn't good enough. I also have been requiring medication and up until 3 days ago were able to do this via phone. Today I dealt with an extremely rude receptionist Carole Catlow. Rather than explaining the practice had altered the way you re order prescriptions I was rudely spoken to and abruptly cut off leaving me confused on what I am supposed to do. Firstly if you are going to be the first point of call at the practice you need to remember service. Manners, tone of voice and giving the patient helpful information. I am extremely unhappy with how I was spoken to and I think it's important that she needs to understand people ringing the surgery are ringing through not being well or needing something. They deserve to be spoken to better. To be more empathetic, show understanding and help them by giving clear instructions. When your not thorough and precise with how you are speaking to people there requests doesn't disappear. My confusion and need for prescription resulted in 3 further phone calls to Carole at oxford road overall. Not only was my time wasted but I strongly believe if she'd have been more informative and helpful the first time it wouldn't have resulted to the unnecessary further calls. A receptionist should be the face of the surgery... polite, friendly, knowledgeable and empathic. I was extremely disappointed with The service I received today. Also regarding repeat prescriptions. My midwife is unable to prescribe me my medication, I am unable to ring through to request prescription. Thus I'm expected to make an additional appointment to see the doctor to now get repeat prescription. No wonder patients can never be seen if we're unnecessarily wasting doctors time on picking prescriptions up! Something needs to be done where the surgery works more cohesively together to avoid wasting patients time and there own time.

i have been with this surgery now for over 10 years and i have not had a problem with them at all in that 10 yrs. The receptionists are very helpful. The nurses are fantastic and you feel at ease with them when you see them. The drs listen well to you and always discuss ways to treat you when they have diagnosed the problem. giving you an option of how to move forward. I can not fault this practice at all.

Receptionists are ridiculously rude, is it in their job remit to ask what's wrong with you so they can make a judgement on whether you need to see a doctor? I find it as massive invasion of privacy and should be stopped immediately. Doctors and nurses are FANTASTIC at oxford road but the practice is ruined by the front desk staff.

I had a very difficult experience recently with Oxford Road Medical Centre in Burnley. I had been building up the courage to ring the surgery for help with a mental illness for months. I finally plucked up the courage and Dr Robb was amazing. He helped me with my anxiety disorder and honestly changed my life. I was running out of the medication and rung the surgery for a new appointment to review my medication. The receptionist was so rude to me that I actually had to ask her to treat me nicely. She explained that I was unable to see Dr Robb as he was 'not even in until Thursday anyway' so I would have to see another doctor. Understandably I was nervous about this because it had taken so much courage to speak to someone in the first place. I asked the receptionist if the other doctor would have access to my medical records (so I wouldn't have to explain all my difficulties all over again) and her response was 'how do I know? I don't even know your name' and then continued to be rude to me throughout the phonecall by speaking to me like I was annoying her. I met with Dr Astle the day I finished my medication and he was amazing too, helped me with my medication and really put my mind at rest. I just want to make sure that people do not have the experience I did. It takes so much courage to finally ask for help and I could have done without an argument with a receptionist. I asked her if I had done something wrong at one point because she was so rude to me, her response was 'no but I don't know who you are do I?' But she never asked for my name so I gave it I her and she just huffed at me. I just had to get off the phone, forgot to write down my appointment and was nervous to ring back to confirm my appointment. I then spoke to a different receptionist who was so helpful.

The doctor I saw on my last two visits to the surgery was dismissive and made me feel like my requests were too much trouble for them. I'm considering changing surgery as the doctor left me feeling so upset.

I am not a fan of writing reviews as I'm useless, however I thought it was time I did. When I ring the practice up the receptionists are always polite, courteous and try to help you any way which they can. I have never had to wait more than 2/3 days for an appointment. If it is urgent sometimes you have the option of Open Surgery or waiting until the end of an appointment surgery to see a doctor. I have always been taken care of with utmost respect and the doctors/ nurses listen to what you have to say if you are concerned about your health. I've been a patient for 40 years and I've never had any problems with appointments or care... oh just one more thing, I was surprised when I got a letter just after my 40th asking if I'd like to make an appointment for an "MOT", I didn't know they even existed.. 5 star care in my eyes...

On the odd occasion I attend the medical centre (touch wood) I have found nothing but helpful staff no matter what position they hold there in particular the practice nurses notably Mrs Scott.
