I went with a toothache six weeks ago since then I have had numerous appointments. The first appointment they just looked at my teeth took an x-ray and told me to book another appointment. My second appointment two weeks later, still suffering with toothache they put in a temporary filling And told me to make another appointment which was a week later my third appointment I put in a temporary filling again as the first one had come out and took another x-ray and told me to make another appointment. I’m now in more pain than I was when I first went to them on my next appointment, the Dentist said that she thought I problems with the tooth behind as well and so drilled a bit more and put another temporary fill-in and told me to make another appointment. I found my Dentist to tell them that I was still in pain and unfortunately my next appointment/with an appointment I already had and could they please book me in earlier, but they could not. I’ve had to extend it to another week and I’m in so much pain. I am worried that they may now decide to do a root canal as I’ve had a root canal from this Dentist before a number of years ago and have continuous problems with it. It is never really settled down on numerous occasions I’ve had to have antibiotics for infections and I’ve had to go backwards and forwards for them to adjust it so I am very worried about having another root canal at this surgery.. I believe, although I may be wrong that I’ve had a number of appointments because I am an NHS patient and it’s not worth them doing all the work during one appointment. I think if I was paying my treatment may be different but that is only my opinion. I would like to go to a different surgery but I am unable to sign on as an NHS patient with any local surgeries as I’ve tried and the waiting list is about two years. I am on awaiting list for the local surgery but at present, they cannot take on any more NHS patients, my son and daughter, as well as myself have been patience at the essence clinic since it opened a few years ago and we were also patients with the Dentist that was there before. Overall we were patients at that surgery for more than 20 years. However, there has been a big change with essence, dental surgery , they seem more concerned with cosmetic changes, whitening teeth et cetera and charging you extra for other services that used to be free like hygiene. I was told that because we did not attend the surgery for a regular checkup since the pandemic that my son and daughter had been taken off the NHS register and we now without a Dentist. We had always gone for checkups, but usually we only went once a year and it had been changed to every six months, and I was not aware that if you did not attend or make an appointment with that six months period you could be struck off but I was told this was the role and there was nothing I could do about it. My son and daughter have now signed up with the local Dentist and are very pleased with the service they get and I hope I will be able to change to this Dentist too. My son does pay for his surgery. My daughter at present is on benefits as well as myself, and we’ve had to borrow money to pay for her recent dental treatment which was urgent , I know that the Dentist practices are struggling everywhere and I’ve seen obviously what’s on the news. It is very concerning that the NHSDentist surgery has collapsed as well as the NHS itself. It is such a shame as we were leading services in the world if I could afford it as I’m sure many who can afford it. Do I would go private as the NHS system is totally broken. I can totally understand why people are pulling their own teeth out. To be honest I’m thinking of that too.

Suggested improvements
  • It would’ve been great if I had been able to have my filling done and completed on my first visit or at least by my second visit and not still be in pain weeks and weeks on and still have a temporary filling and no definite solution to my problem. I have been unable to eat my usual food for more than one month now hot cold, or any bite is extremely painful.
