On the 6th September 2016, I was referred to this dentist surgery by the NHS as an emergency patient. My experience there was the worst ever. I asked nicely at the reception if I could present my NHS Tax credit card as I was told by the medical personnel who referred me that I could use it. The response was 'no' and the receptionist commented rudely about being a staff but still having to pay for her care. Might I say that I had no problems at all with paying but only was making an inquiry. The dentist was quick to ask me in, which was good but sadly, she was extremely rude. After driving 29 miles from work during my lunch break, the least I expected was a rushed session. Firstly, she was extremely inpatient and did not listen to the explanation of my problem. With frequent interruptions as I spoke all she picked up was I had severe bleeding gums. Immediately she responded that it was not an emergency and she could not do anything about it. I tried to explain that NHS 111 told me that my symptoms were an emergency case and needed treatment asap. She asked me to open my mouth and when I did, with a rather aggressive tone she said you don't brush your teeth... it is plaque. I said excuse me, I brush my teeth twice or three times a day most times but can you not see that my gums are inflamed and I am in awful pain which can affect the outcome of my brushing?. She repeated herself, you are not brushing your teeth that is why. At that point I thought she was rather an impatient, rude and judgmental dentist but I kept my calm. She said sorry I can't do anything about it you have to go to your dentist. I told her, firstly I have just paid £19.70 and I demanded treatment, secondly I left work miles away and thirdly, I am on a nine months waiting list to register with a dentist as I am new in the area and could not get an appointment, that was why I was referred to an emergency dentist. She said all she could do was a minor scaling, I said okay then. The procedure was extremely brief and painful, in my honest opinion there was nothing done apart from torture and I was better of not getting it done. Firstly, I don't think she was close enough to see what she was doing, I wondered why because I had no bad breath. She ended up scaling my sore gums many times, instead of my teeth. I was moaning and signalled for her to stop, again with an aggressive tone she questioned me do you want to do this or not? I am going to stop. I signalled that I needed to spit, and she said oh you can swallow it it's your spit (in my head I was like oh my goodness, is this person a qualified dentist???) I shook my head in protest and she asked her assistant to get me a cup of water. When I spat, it was all thick red blood, and I said to her can you not see it is blood? I was about to get sick. At that point I had had enough, I stood up, she repeated again, there is not much I can do, you have to start brushing your teeth. I said to her, if you say that one more time I will be really upset. I told her that I was a healthy person and had very good dental hygiene and that for some reason I am suffering with sore gums and need help treating them not being shouted at. She realised herself and started apologising saying she is only trying to help, she changed her tone, pretending to sound nice saying... you have to continue brushing even though you feel pain. Her assistant was aware of her rudeness all along and tried to be the civil one. Overall, I had a very awful experience and I am NEVER going back there.
