Fantastic eye surgeon for Glaucoma and Cataract treatment. I was so nervous and worried about my treatment, which spanned many months. I am being treated for Ocular Hypertension and Cataracts under the care of Mr Ratnarajan and his team. I have had my rigth eye operated on by Mr Ratnarajan, watched by 6-7 surgeons from other hospitals, the Queen Victoria Hospital is a teaching hospital. A glaucoma stent was inserted before the cataract was removed and a replacement lens fitted, the whole procedure was a great success. I cannot praise the whole team under the leadership of Mr Ratnarajan enough for their ever cheerful, happy manner while being extremely professional in their approach to caring for all their patients. I now look forward to the same treatment for my other eye.

After an anxious and uncertain time as glaucoma symptoms became more apparent, I was fortunate enough to be accepted as a patient by Mr Ratnarajan. At a very early stage I felt I was in safe hands and could have every confidence in him, and everything that has happened since has only confirmed this. He is an accomplished surgeon, passionate about his subject, who delivers excellent results. Yet he remains very approachable and clearly cares a great deal about his patients, addressing any concerns, taking time to explain and discuss options, ensuring that they benefit from the best treatments available. Efficiency is also important to him and he leads his team by example. Gok performed a trabeculectomy for me two years ago which has been very successful. Although a first eye operation is likely to be a bit daunting, it turned out to be interesting rather than an ordeal. Gok did everything he could to reduce anxiety, from keeping waiting time on the day of surgery to a minimum, to giving reassuring progress reports during the op. itself. The procedure was painless and everyone in theatre was friendly and kind. As a result of this excellent experience I had no worries at all about a cataract + stents operation on the other eye six weeks ago, which went equally well. At clinic appointments Gok and his team always treat patients with courtesy and respect which adds to the positive experience. QVH is a wonderful hospital and Mr Ratnarajan is making a valuable contribution to its well deserved reputation. As cases of glaucoma become more and more numerous I hope he will have access to any technology with which he can make that contribution even greater.

After researching eye specialists I came across Mr Ratnarajan. It was a great choice. At the initial consultation, where he included my wife, the explanation of my condition, the options, procedure and costs were all fully explained in as much detail as we wanted. He guided me through the process with skill and patience answering our questions fully. The two cataract procedures went as explained and expected. In theatre Mr Ratnarajan continued to settle me, explaining the procedure, the likely duration, whether I wanted any music while I kept motionless. His voice, while addressing the theatre staff, was always calm and re-assuring, even when handed an incorrect instrument by a trainee. Follow up consultations continued in the same manner. My only wish is that he operated closer to where I live. His staff at the Mcindoe and his PA ably support him. You will be with a safe pair of hands if you trust and rely on him.
