After a routine colonoscopy, it was found I had an aggressive tumour in my bowel which had also adhered to my stomach wall. Mr Grabham’s care and consideration during the initial shock of the diagnosis, his quiet and determined approach to my case, his surgical skill in removing a large portion of bowel plus 29 lymph nodes and some stomach wall in a very long operation, and his positive and supportive aftercare since, have been absolutely and completely beyond reproach. I remember him coming in frequently to the ICU to check and to monitor my progress, even when not scheduled, and I had the reassurance that he was always available even when off site when the ICU nurses needed to query any care requirements with him. My diagnosis was complicated by the discovery that I am at higher risk of other cancers, and Mr Grabham has always been generous with his time and open and honest when I have contacted him with worries and concerns about possible symptoms. He has always responded promptly and clearly with recommendations or reassurance as needed. His forthright and honest manner have been of great comfort to me during and since the time of my operation, and I trust him implicitly.
