I had Robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy surgery for prostate cancer, at UCLH at the back end of June this year. Surgery was performed by Mr Anand Kelkar. My initial meeting with Mr Kelkar was on the morning of surgery, at a time when I was as anxious and worried as I had ever been, since discovering that I had prostate cancer. Mr Kelkar explained, in very simple, sensitive terms, what the actual surgery involved and checked my understanding of the procedure. He has a very gentle, confident way about him and informed me that the procedure was quite straightforward. The discussion could not have lasted more than five minutes, if that. But he somehow managed to put my mind at ease. On the morning after surgery, Mr Kelkar visited the ward to update me on the surgery. He said it involved nerve-sparing procedure and that everything went very well. Today, I feel as good as gold and I’m pretty much back to normal. I just cannot thank Mr Kelkar enough! A huge ‘Thank You’ also to all the members UCLH nursing team both in-house and online who have helped me back to good health. The support and caring that I have had post-surgery, has been first class! R Harris
