Dr Muller has been our family's paediatrician for 18+ months now, and he is quite simply in a league of his own. The way he practises medicine sets the standard in so many ways. Completely patient-centred, considerate and thoughtful when it comes to the big things (eg his threshold for ordering investigations, or for prescribing antibiotics - always taking into account the impact this may have on the child not just physically but equally their mental wellbeing). And likewise when it comes to the smallest details (eg when I mentioned in passing that our child struggled with the taste of one particular medicine, he noted it on her records so he can use a different one if needed in the future). Within 24 hours of the JCVI's recent direction for an additional polio booster, he went out of his way to arrange for the children to have it done (he knew we were about to travel), and even helped them choose their reward lollipops afterwards. The wonderful connection they have formed with him is testament to the kind of physician he is - it's them who now ask us: "Mummy / Daddy, can we go to see our doctor?". For parents his professionalism, kindness and empathy extend to making time for conversations to discuss routine test results (including the "so what does this mean" for other family members) and often after he has himself sounded out colleagues for your benefit. He became our paediatrician during a very difficult stage of the pandemic - we see that as the great silver lining of the Covid years. We are most grateful for all he continues to do for our family.
