I had a 2 night stay for abdominal laproscopic surgery. As a retired nurse (general surgery, midwifery, general practice) I am fairly observant / critical of care and facilities but I could not fault this hospital. The room was clean, basically but adequately furnished and the ensuite had a large walk in shower.
Nursing, medical, physiotherapy and pharmacy staff were all excellent; knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and helpful. Domestic staff friendly and helpful. Food supplied to myself and my husband was of high quality. Information to my husband re my return from surgery was courteous and helpful. Discharge was efficient. All the documentation / information sheets supplied before admission and on discharge well though out and comprehensive, If it was necessary I would not hesitate to return there.
Accommodation is tired and dated .Rooms have baths and few rooms have walk in showers - Therefore my Post Hip replacement operation sanitation became quite stressful when contemplating a wash - became a marathon and a board across a bath , as recommended by staff, was in my opinion a very poor compromise especially as this is private care .
Patient's rooms are small ,dated and mine came with stained furnishings .The room became cluttered with aids such as zimmers and crutches and there were no pictures or prints on the walls. A very soulless room. Again not what is expected in a private hospital. The reception area has a stained carpet and is dark which was remarked on by visitors. Cafeteria closed at the weekends so no snacks or decent coffees available for guest and visitors.
Advise to ask to see room before deciding if this is where you want to stay .I stayed for only a few days and despite telling myself that I was there for surgery I became very stressed about the accommodation and left as soon as I could. I wouldn't go back there as the excellent surgeon who carried out the operation works in other more attractive hospitals. In conclusion not impressed at all with BMI Ross Hall Hospital
The accommodation is dated and tired. Although the reception area has local prints on the walls the area is dark with stained carpets and the patient' rooms rooms themselves are soulless with tired and marked furnishings. The patient room that I was given was small which with zimmers and other necessary aids causes frustrations.
I was given a room witch had a bath with a shower attachment.Admitted for a hip operation this was not the most practical of sanitory conditions and although assured that I would be supported by a staff member by using a wooden board to sit over the bath I was not convinced.I was told that there were only a few rooms with walk in showers and that all the rooms were much the same size. I chose to contend with a hand wash.In the warm and humid conditions this was unsatisfactory however the staff did their best and changed bedding each day. As a result I stayed only 2 out of the 3 planned nights- longer and I would have felt really down.In general I was really disappointed by Ross Hall's accommodation.
Also the cafeteria was closed at the weekends which meant that visitors had no access to decent coffee and teas etc. There is a kind of substitute free coffee available from a machine whereas during the week proper coffees and meals are available. Not a very good experience and something to think about if staying longer than 1 night at Ross Hall
Poor impression of BMI Hospital. Are all BMI Hospitals like this I wonder ?
