Review of Home Birth Service - RLH
21st May 2024

The Home Birth team at the RLH were exceptional. I have been grateful for continuity of care from a designated midwife, Caitlin, throughout pregnancy who has helped myself and my husband feel empowered and knowledgeable throughout the pregnancy, and benefited from a wealth of experience of midwife Irene who attended the birth. Irene was calm, respectful, compassionate, and kept me informed throughout my established labour, including explaining the risk factors that led to her call an ambulance as a precaution. I did not need the services of the paramedics in the end, but they were quick to attend, and we're also kind and respectful.

I was a patient in CDU at the RLH from 27/3 to 5/4. On three of those days I was tended by Nurse Stephen Brennan, whose care I cannot over praise: calm, efficient and prepared for all eventualities. A highlight for me was the all-over wash from top of head to the toes of my feet he administered. A credit to his profession!

I can't recommend the TH Homebirth team enough. The care I received throughout was personal, supportive and totally non-judgemental. Absolutely fantastic and I would recommend this homebirth service to everyone.

Dr Matthew Hogg is a kind and gentle Dr. I will never forget how he saved my life when other Doctors in my opinion were not prepared for the risk of performing a surgery on me because my condition was very risky. This God sent the angel of a Dr just walked into my life and opted to perform the surgery on me. Not only is he kind, he is empathetic, gentle, polite, very professional and kind. He did a great job on me and I am alive. I sometimes can believe the major surgical procedure he did for me. If you happen to be his patient, simply relax because you are in safe hands. God bless you Dr Hogg for saving many others like me.

Review of Home Birth Service - RLH
22nd August 2023

The team are incredible and I received a safe and amazing experience of birth that was very healing after a traumatic labour previously at The Royal where my choice of pain relief (water pool) was not available leaving me feeling forced into a csection by the lack of pool and the terrifying empty labour room being set up to lie back which optimises tearing of the mother. There was no comfortable facilities outside a hard floor for upright evidence based protective positions and having now given birth I am experienced in how much more painful lying back is vs standing so would have led to me missing feeling and being truly aware of the entire physical experience I wanted even if I’d not had the c section as I would have then needed an epidural.

Suggested improvements
Prompt reliable supply of gas and air is a critical need. I wanted to avoid pethidine and any long-acting pain relief, but the gas arrival was delayed (no fault of my incredible midwives, the system needs to be better). I am glad I only had gas and air in the end but nearly gave in to pethadine which I would have regretted and completely changed my incredible experience into one I had not wanted.

I had the privilege of being under the care of Dr. Parkes and I can confidently say that my experience was exceptional in every way. From the moment I walked into the clinic, I felt welcomed and at ease. Dr. Parkes displayed a remarkable level of expertise and knowledge throughout our interactions. I suffer from severe IBS and gastritis. Dr Parkes took the time to thoroughly explain my medical condition and treatment options, ensuring I had a clear understanding of my situation. Beyond his expertise, Dr. Parkes demonstrated genuine compassion and empathy. I cannot thank him enough, I feel much better! Lamia
