I had meningitis and a stroke when I was 1 I have a weakness down my right hand side I can walk some steps with a stick but cannot use my right hand and cannot walk more than about 20 meters. According to guidelines dudley wheelchair services say I am only entitled to a manual wheelchair but I cannot self propel a manual chair so someone has to push me , not that great for a 17 year old girl who wants to be independent . I do have a power chair now supplied by Whizz kids charity . But if it was up to wheelchair services I would have only a manual chair and someone , my parents , or a support worker , would have to push me around where as I can get around by myself with the power chair, where is the sense in that?
