I had my ankle replacement under Mr Andrew Goldberg. I saw him for consultation at the Wellington Hospital in London and he recommended that my surgery take place at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. I visited the hospital and it was a bit like a 1940's evacuation centre as its full of nissen huts and open spaces. I initially expressed concerns about treatment there but was reassured that the hospital has one of the lowest infection rates in the country and does more ankle replacements than virtually any other centre. I am so glad that I did because my experience of the staff was exceptional. The wards were clean and everyone so professional from the nurses to the physios and I was very happy at the information given to me in advance and after the surgery. They even showed me a video and interviews of other patients that have had surgery and this really put my mind at rest. I cannot recommend the hospital more strongly. It is a centre of excellence and I was so pleased to hear it is now rebuilding to a brand new facility. Shame on the Government for not rebuilding it sooner . My ankle replacement was a Infinity Ankle Replacement using a special computer guided technique and this was important for me because I have had a fracture of my tibia in the past and I wanted to have a solution tailored for me. I have looked at other implants such as the STAR ankle or the BOX ankle. Mr Goldberg has done most of them but recommended the Prophecy Infinity one because of my bone shapes. He has done more than 100 of these implants and I am glad that I chose it because in less than 6 months I am completely pain free. I can go on long walks and I even walked on the beach and swam in the ocean recently something I hadn't been able to do for over 10 years. I really recommend Mr Goldberg and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
