I was privileged to be looked after by specialist nurse Sharon Beale for my Trial Without Catheter appointment three days after my Transurethral Prostatectomy (TURP) at Lymington Hospital, Hants. I was apprehensive about filling myself up with liquid to see how well I could urinate without a catheter, which had proved to be a lifeline leading up to my surgery. There was a lot at stake.
But Sharon provided me with a gold star service. She called me the day before my appointment and explained what would happen during my visit. On the day of the appointment I arrived 30mins early at 07:30hrs but Sharon welcomed me into her consulting room. My catheter was removed amid lots of chatty conversation and without me realising she had removed it. Two tests followed to ensure I was able to urinate and clear virtually all my bladder.
Sharon was reassuring throughout and ready to answer all my questions. I have received outstanding care from everyone at Lymington Hospital, which concluded with Sharon saying I was good to go. Sharon exemplified the service and care I have received throughout. Top marks Sharon and the outstanding NHS Team.

Sharon clearly has a wealth of knowledge and experience, which she uses to reassure and explain the procedure, to put you at your ease.

My 93 year old father is under Sharon’s care. On the surface she is very kind with good humour but underneath there is a true professional, with detailed knowledge and bags of experience. With his anatomy he is a difficult customer but Sharon carries out the procedure successfully every time where others have regularly failed. For procedures that can be embarrassing for us men Sharan brings a level of normality, reassurance and support. Thank you.

I work in the HAMPSHIRE area as a Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist
I have been working in Urology since 1987 and have previously been a ward manager on a busy urology ward in Southampton.
I joined Fittleworth Medical in 2005 as a Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist and have now transitioned to Hollister. I offer FREE support to the NHS and my nursing colleagues an have an honorary contract with Southampton Hospital
My role includes holding Urology Clinics in Southampton and Lymington Hospitals. I visit patients at home to teach them self-catheterisation, I perform complicated catheter changes and complete full and independent urology assessments; including bladder scanning.
I work closely with Urology Specialist Nurse Practitioners, Consultant Urological Surgeons, General Practitioners and District Nurses. I have extensive knowledge of all urology products available and I have the freedom to make an independent choice based on individual needs.
