As my dad is in a wheelchair and has been told no more than four hours sitting on advising multiple times staff in the a&e we were told no beds available sorry. Also after seeing his gp this afternoon and being told to go to the hospital I did not expect to have to wait in a&e for 3 hours. When this has happened in the past we are seen promptly as we are not a walk in.

I had an amazing birth, I didn't actually need any medical intervention. However, 10 days post birth a midwife told me my uterus had not contracted back down as expected but she said it wasn't uncommon. 4 days later they said the same thing, so took a swab and gave me antibiotics "just in case". They told me a scan was not necessary and that after 5 days I will be back to normal and my bleeding would have stopped. Well the swab came back all clear so I had taken antibiotics for no reason and caused my breastfed baby an upset stomach and the bleeding had only increased. I informed my midwife I felt there was something wrong but she told me I would be fine and discharged me from their services anyway. Fast forward to 5 weeks postpartum and I was still bleeding heavily and I mean there would be times where the blood would pool at my feet it was that heavy. So I had to go to my GP where they finally referred me for a scan which I should have had in the first place as it was found I still had a piece of placenta remaining which was causing me to bleed out. Instead of the hospital treating me then and there as there was a risk of sepsis they told me I had to go back to my GP to get referred back to the hospital!!! I had to wait 4 days to see a GP where they gave me more antibiotics and said I would need SURGERY and that I would get a letter in the post?! I then got a letter that said I had to wait 17 weeks just to be SEEN by a gynaecologist. I had spoken to other women in different areas of the UK that had simply taken tablets for this issue and not had to have surgery. By this point I was livid so took myself to a&e where they again said I would need surgery. I argued with them for 3 hours until they gave in and let me take the tablets, which worked and within 2 days the remaining placenta had made it's way out and my bleeding had stopped completely. Safe to say I WILL NOT be having another baby at Yeovil hospital. To think I could have got a serious infection or be made to have invasive surgery due to the midwives not doing their job. They had a duty of care to make sure I was ok before they discharged me and they failed. I should not have been put through all of this as a first time mum it ruined my experience. Absolutely appalling.

Very kind and helpful people throughout the hospital. Positive atmosphere. Delightful and supportive care from Julie and her team in the Sleep Clinic. A fantastic example of the NHS at its world beating best.
