My mother was admitted with a chest infection on a Friday afternoon.....it took around 6 hours to get her on a ward even though GP rang ahead. When we returned on the Saturday she could not speak....she had a stroke overnight and no-one at the hospital had even noticed! Due to the stroke she was struggling to eat, but staff just delivered food and left it. They collected uneaten meals without a care. We had to be there at mealtimes to make sure she ate and drank as she needed help. She was also unable to take antibiotic tablets when they stopped IV antibiotics, she went downhill rapidly as a result and was dead within 10 days of being admitted. It was the worst experience of my life.
