Review of Virtual Fracture Clinic
18th February 2024

I arrived and was seen in reasonable time by lovely Adam who asked if I needed any pain relief and then not much later was called by the 2 X ray ladies who both made me feel relaxed who offered me a gown to cover my modesty Very soon after I was collected by Bency who looked through my X-ray and informed me that they could see no break in my leg but because I informed her I hear a clicking noise as I walked she summoned another specialist to make sure nothing had been missed as I have arthritis of the knees thank you you were brilliant all of you

i attended Yeovil hospital today in the Audiology department on the recommendations from the Outpatient clinic within the shopping precinct on 4th November 2023 who had specified prisms to correct my visual problems. After battling through freezing fog at 0800.am I was initially impressed with my treatment, eye test and scan and the next stage was to see the doctor for fitment of the prisms ! From then on in the chaos descended and the doctor was vague, disorganised and uninformed ! He stated that the clinician had not got an appointment for me, that he did not have any prisms (despite scouring his desk drawers ) and that they would endeavour to re-appoint me within 2 weeks....This is not satisfactory and totally unacceptable...I am an 83yr old and this has caused me considerable stress !!! I would like an urgent appointment at a reasonable hour, say between 1100am and 3.00pm plus an assurance that the treatment is as designated on 04/11/2023 ! This has reflected very badly on your hospital which is regrettable and opposite to my previous experiences under your care so please address this urgently and restore my faith !!!

This hospital is so chaotic it beggers belief. During the two week's I have been I have been moved from ward to ward, bay to corridor. Which normally results in meals being missed and breakfasts forgotten. I have seen wards where elderly patients are left in distress because the staff are too busy " doing the hand over between shifts". Leaving the more able patients to tend to their needs. I've seen other patients told they be going home at 09.00 only to be then told at 16.45 that's not going to happen. Causing aggravation and distress to the patient. Unacceptable and truly inhumane. The whole place has lost the concept of caring for people and too caught up by farin the importance of its own failing procedures. Needs a complete change of management and reveiw of patient satisfaction. The current scores would from experience appear to be fabrications

Went to A&E with possible broken thumb and tendon damage. Was triaged promptly and then went back to await X-rays. 30mins later X-rays were done. 35 mins after that I saw Nurse Practitioner who confirmed thumb wasn’t broken although X-rays would be sent to Virtual Fracture Clinic for confirmation. In and out within 2hrs, I was very pleased. Following morning, 9.30am I received phone call from the Virtual Fracture Clinic to confirm no break but tendon damage. Now awaiting call from hand Clinic, which hopefully won’t be long. I know the NHS is under incredible strain and appreciate sometimes things don’t go as smoothly but for my experience everything was excellent.

The long wait to be treated was very poor, in a lot of pain and discomfort waited for many hours in waiting room awaiting a temporary limb cast.

Suggested improvements
may be change the system? tell the health minister Yeovil Hospital urgently requires a substantial budget increase due to the overload of work and numbers of patients.

Visited A and E this afternoon thinking I had sprained my arm but it was broken. Very efficient from the beginning until I left. Superb staff especially Steve (the plasterer) highly recommended and I left with a Straighter arm than some of my walls at home. Thank you so much for all you did for me today it was so very much appreciated.

On Sunday 29th January, I stupidly shut a car door on my right middle finger. I visited you’re A & E department where I received excellent service. The triage nurse and the radiologist were gentle as they handled the injured digit. Unfortunately, I do not recall their names; but their kindness was much appreciated. Adam the nurse who tend to me (I think he said he was a senior nurse practioner) was excellent. He chatted as he worked & explained what he was doing & why. I am truly lucky to live in a country where the health service is free at the point of need & where we have such caring staff. Thank you Yeovil hospital staff.
