I was admitted via ambulance on Saturday straight into resus then later discharged with what I thought was the appropriate treatment. I was at home resting in bed at 10pm two days later when I was rudely awoken by one of the A&E doctors trying to call me; this wouldn’t be an issue if they hadn’t then phone my house phone too, as well as my mothers phone a number of times. I was told by the doctor on the phone that I needed a further course of antibiotics as well as the ones I’d been discharged with because they had found something in a culture that they were testing in the lab that they had taken from my blood samples. I was intsructed to go to A&E and they would have the extra medication ready for me to pick up and carry on resting as per my instructions. Well I arrived at Worthing hospital to be told I was booked back on which was not what I was here for in the first place; furthermore I was told the doctor was aware I had arrived and would be along shortly to see me and sort out my medication. Well I had been kept waiting for well over the 5 hour mark before my name was even uttered to be seen by a doctor. I was then reassessed as if I was a new patient and given the same antibiotics that I already had that was not the reason I was there in the first place!! Angry is an understatement. I spent more time in the hospital waiting room than I did in my own home resting, and ended up feeling worse than I did when I was originally admitted on Saturday. It is honestly the worst experience I have had with this hospital and in future I will be driving further a field if I require urgent care because this incident! Actually seeing the doctor and getting the medication took less than 5 minutes and she was unfortunately completely unaware as to my reason for visiting despite not visiting of my own free will to begin with I was instructed too by one of the other doctors working the same department. The lack of communication is an absolute shambles!!
