Overall a good experience. Consultant and his PA were heroic, I cannot thank them enough. Discharging Reg less so. Nurses very efficient and for the most part clinically very sound. Some patchiness in personal approach from HCAs, but not detrimental to my stay.Uniformly clean. Food generally dire, but there you go - I got my husband to bring some in.

I have had two experiences with Worthing hospital, one very positive and one les so. In January 2023 I was admitted to A&E following a pelvic fracture caused by a fall 5' off my garden wall onto flagstones below. Despite pressures the NHS was under I was very grateful for the way my case was handled both by the paramedics and the Emergency Team at Worthing. Yes there was a bit of waiting and quite a lot of shunting around during the course of the night but I really felt all the staff were doing their best for me in difficult circumstances. In 2019 I was diagnosed with Terminal Prostate Cancer. On that occasion I was kept waiting 5 weeks to get my diagnosis, there seemed to be no consistency of staffing and my case clearly didn't seem to be a priority. I was fortunate to be able to get a transfer to a different NHS trust where the care has been much better.

By no fault of their own the staff don’t always have the time to be around you so I felt I waited around for long periods. Some members of staff seem prepared to go ‘that extra mile’ and I commend them. Everyone was caring and helpful.

My grand daughter has suffered general & mental health problems for several years with poor care by healthcare professionals in the area.Last night in a crisis state following overdose she was taken to Worthing A&E where she was put on a saline drip for several hours in a side room. She begged for admission even by Sectioning but was given basic advice & discharged without concern for her safety or welfare. She walked the 2 miles to her flat where she lives alone to find that the drip canula had been left in her hand. This level of care is unacceptable & shows that the problems within NHS Sussex mental health services are worse than ever.

Worthing hospital has always been brilliant and we are so glad we still have such a great hospital. All of the staff have been fantastic, from all departments, birth of children, operations as well as other medical care for all of our family whenever we needed it. We can't endorse Worthing hospital enough! We would be devastated if it were to close.

I took my wife to A&E into the second week of a holiday. She has pseudomonas and is considered an expert patient with her care. We informed the staff that she has regular episodes, because she is on immune suppressants. She has a stand-by form and pot to present to the path-lab when she experiences the symptoms (mucus in the nose, tiredness and sweating). She then starts on her stand-by antibiotics to prevent it going on to her chest as the infection spreads rapidly. We made it clear that the infection has gone on to her chest as it hadn't responded to three courses of oral antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin). We advised that her culture test was positive and her record shows that few antibiotics work on it and is susceptible to GENTAMICIN S, CIPROFLOXACIN S and TAZOCIN S. We advised that normal practice when it resisted Ciprofloxacin was to be canulated and have IV Tazocin. After tests, she was sent away with a packet of doxycycline, which is ineffective for pseudomonas. We were disappointed that the doctor refused to acknowledge how her infection is usually treated when it keeps resisting oral antibiotics, and felt she did not receive treatment because we were not from the area. We were treated very well by the nurses. My wife usually has a picc line due to her thin veins after many years of blood tests, not the easiest of tasks, which most would not like to attempt. The young chap who breezed in and canulated her made it look all too easy and was her best experience of a picc line. As her condition worsened after discharge, we had to terminate the holiday early to get home for the correct treatment. Her GP referred her to same day emergency care who started her on IV Tazocin and transferred her care to ICT nurses to administer at home. Pleased to say that after getting back home on the correct treatment, she is recovering nicely.
