Whittington Orthopaedic and Trauma Department – nurses, surgeons, reception staff – have been brilliant throughout. Friendly, professional, warm, reassuring and always prepared to listen and answer questions. I felt I was in safe hands and would recommend this department wholeheartedly. I wish I could remember all the names of the staff I dealt with to thank them individually. You couldn't fault them.

The staff on hand in Orthopaedic clinic are always friendly, polite and helpful to all patients including myself. I have always felt they perform an exceptionally good job. Thank you to them.

The hospital was easily accessible, clean and staff were helpful when asked questions. I had very good care before, during and after my surgery. The medical staff and nurses were very professional and excellent in performing their duties.

My grandmother refused to go back into the Whittington hospital in the 1950's when the general view of it was that it was a one way journey!! Now, i think it is one of the best hospitals in the UK, though there was a moment a few years ago when the head honcho decided to hive off some of the provision. But the fierce public reaction against it forced her to back down and thank goodness she left, leaving a hospital that we all are very proud of.

I had a second hip replacement last August. The Whittington Hospital has an orthopaedic unit which is separated from the rest of the hospital with the aim of reducing the chance of cross-infection and there is a real sense of community spirit. The care and attention of the staff before, during and after the op was wonderful. In addition to pre-assessment clinics, every patient has to attend a Joint School. In the course of a 1 1/2 hour session the whole process is explained, including possible complications, how best to prepare and what will happen in the follow-up. Altogether brilliant (I was sent home the day after the op and stopped using crutches within a week).

The receptionist in the department I was seen was quite intimidating and not very helpful. I have to explain a lot of things to him prior to listening to what I was saying. The senior nurse in the same department doesn't have an approachable attitude. I asked her a question and she already had an answer before I finished my question. I've been in the same department 3x and her demeanor is never approachable to patients to the point that patient were talking about her. I am not sure if its the pressure in the department or just her attitude. On my 3rd visit waiting within the waiting area, I was approached by a healthcare assistant and just said to me "come with me please". this is not even asking for my name first. She only asked me for my name when she already asked me to sit in another waiting area. From the 1st to the last visit, I had quite an unpleasant visit in Whittington Hospital, hence the reason for giving the stars above. I can understand the pressure we get from working in the NHS but I believe that if your attitude is already fixed, however easy or heavy your work is, you'll display the same old face unless someone will tell you about this.
