My husband Alex collapsed on 4th of January and rushed by the London Ambulance to the Whipps Cross Hospital Accident and Emergency Department. Following that he spent several hours in the AAU1 Ward and then a week in the Elizabeth Ward. I am writing this in recognition of amazing care my husband received from the very start of the life threatening condition he suddenly developed, to the day he was discharged on 10th January. When Alex collapsed we had a paramedic on a motorbike within minutes. He was absolutely great and so were the two London Ambulance women paramedics who followed about 10 minutes later. In the A&E Alex was very thoroughly and sensitively examined and treated by doctors and nurses and all of them did their absolute best make both Alex and me very welcome and looked after. That was the weekend when the media reported big pressure on health services and yet in Whipps Cross A&E everything worked perfectly. The place was spotless and the staff was very busy but managed to remain caring and friendly and to answer many questions we anxiously asked. The transfer between A&E and AAU1 and was smooth and well organised with an A&E nurse following shortly after us to brief the AAU1 staff re Alex’s situation. Alex’s next ward was Elizabeth and we both had opportunity to experience a week of five star care by a team of nurses, doctors and other staff all of whom were amazing, for which we are eternally grateful. We felt so fortunate to have the NHS which can look after us when we need it in such a wonderful way. I have used Whipps Cross Hospital in the past and my experiences were mixed, so I want to congratulate Whipps Cross staff on the massive improvements and great job they are doing and to thank you again for saving my husband’s life and being so lovely to us.
