Having over the past 3 weeks been a patient in Urology and A and E, I have to say what fantastic care I have recieved from everyone. I had a procedure in Urology as a day patient which went fine, everyone without exception, was very helpful, kind and utterly professional. I had cause to visit A and E on the 6th of October due to a slight complication following my surgery. A and E were straight on it and I had 3 lovely people from Urology to sort things out for me. Kept overnight in Knightstone who looked after me superbly. I cannot speak highly enough of the medical staff at WGH, brilliant, dedicated professionals. My only critisism is that the main telephone receptionists for the hospital could be less patronising and should be clear on department working hours. Just for your benefit I can tell the time and Urology opens at 8am Monday to Friday !

Had been waiting for an appointment plus injections into shoulders .. over 6 months so I thought I would call and find out what’s was happening., found out that the doctor in charge had discharged me!! I had not been informed and I am still in a lot of pain!! Not impressed at all. How can someone be discharged and not be told ? And find out that all the conversations that had taken placed re further treatment . Plus surgery as it was getting no better . Suddenly warrant being discharged! Again the patient is let down!

I attended the hospital on 18th October 2021 for my gall bladder removal operation, expected duration 1 day. Left on Thursday 21 October 2021 after complications experienced during surgery and the extended aftercare required. The care and attention I received during my stay was exceptional. From booking in, through pre surgery, surgery, recovery, ward care and release, I was kept fully aware of every stage of my stay. All staff were professional, courteous and friendly, responding to any requests efficiently. During these times of Covid when the NHS is under extreme pressure, to receive such attention is only more commendable. I thank all the staff for making my stay as comfortable as possible during this worrying time.

Had op for open surgery hernia repair in early March of this year everyone from 07:00 hours to discharge at around 15:00 hours was absolutely superb. prior to op advised what to expect following surgery so none of the symptoms experienced was a surprise. Nothing but praise for the surgical team, nurses, surgeon and consultant. Very apprehensive on arrival but the lovely nurses with their humour were absolutely fantastic marks out of 100 surely 100. and thank you. Surgery at 72 plus years of age was not such an ordeal as imagined. As someone said- no problems in life just challenges.

Rude receptionist, at a&e 19.00, shouting at me to wash hands, and remove mask, when wasn't wearing a mask herself. Very unprofessional, felt threatened, had to walk away

I was sent to A&E by my GP. I was assessed very quickly and sent to AEC department for treatment. My husband and I were both very impressed with the efficiency and professionalism of all the staff in the department. Whilst there( 5 hours) they made me feel special and that the staff were going to look after me. I had an ECG done by a friendly young nurse, bloods and observations taken by Kim who calmed my fears and a very nice clever doctor who, after a chest xray and CT Scan (here the lovely Herbert looked after me), told me I didnt have a clot on my lung but had been suffering with Pleurisy. At all times I felt the doctor and nurses were concerned about my health and were going to do their utmost to find out what the problem was and treat me. I was kept informed as to how long the wait might be etc. Thank you to all the staff I met on friday 3rd January. You all work so hard for us.

This is the second time I have been admired to Weston general, this time with meningitis and the staff couldn’t have been freindlier from the nurses, porters and doctors. I had my own room with a bathroom in both occasions. The facility was clean and I was checked on rugulary. The nurse even offered to set me up on the WiFi.

It has taken me a long time to have the strength to write this review. My Mum was admitted following a fall and fracturing her hip. She developed pneumonia, staff were uncaring. They did not pick up on clinical changes quickly enough. I had to push for a medical review, physically Mum was having rigors and appeared very unwell, but the nurse told me her last set of observations had been fine. Early signs of infection were missed. Her condition continued to deteriorate requiring non-invasive ventilation, which was poorly managed by the overstretched ward staff. Nurses and Doctors did not liaise with me or my Father. I had to seek them out, as they appeared to avoid conversations. The respiratory medical team appeared to refuse to notice that my Mum was dying. She became malnourished, not helped by staff leaving food but not giving her prescribed essential dietary enzymes (Creon) to help her digest this food which lead to acute diarrhoea, and very sore skin. When her requirement for ventilation increased and the mask needed to remain in-situ staff failed to offer adequate comfort and mouth care, the roof of her mouth was so dry and blistered. The only good news was that Mum was moved to ITU, it became obvious that she would not survive but the ITU team informed us of all changes, plans were discussed, and we were supported. Had she remained on the ward, I'm sure our experience would have been very different. The ward did not have enough experienced staff to cope with the complex needs of the patients receiving ventilation. The ward nurses and doctors did not communicate well with my Mum or the family.
